Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning
and Technology
TechREACH program
The mission of the Puget Sound Center is to
leverage the power of technology, diversity
and leadership to transform teaching and
learning. In support of that mission,
TechREACH was launched in 2003 with start-up
funding from a Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation grant and a Seattle Foundation
grant.
About TechREACH
The mission of TechREACH is to increase
middle school girls’ interest in science,
technology, engineering and mathematics
through hands-on high-quality curriculum,
mentoring and real world projects. We create
a supportive, diverse educational community
focused on girls’ needs through partnerships
with parents, schools, communities,
business, and higher education.
TechREACH is offered through after school
clubs targeting at-risk middle school
girls—the group most likely to fall behind
in the science, technology, engineering and
mathematics areas. In 2005-06, TechREACH is
expanding to serve approximately 250 middle
school girls from Western Washington schools
in the Seattle, Edmonds, Kent, Everett,
Marysville, Burien, Mukilteo, Renton, La
Conner, Lynden and Whidbey Island areas.
