This role requires knowledge of basic marketing strategies and tactics, as well as creativity and the ability to develop innovative marketing solutions on a limited budget.  A strong network of personal and corporate contacts throughout the Bay Area, and a willingness to reach out to those contacts to promote workshops and help bring in registered participants is important. The job requires a self-starter, strong coordination and follow-up, and terrific communication and selling skills. It’s a great way to expand and renew your network, and develop new corporate contacts. (Duration: on-going 3-month periods depending on workshop schedule; one position.)

These individuals are responsible for greeting new members and first-time attendees at the ATW monthly events. You should be able to articulate the benefits of ATW benefits and answer general questions about ATW. This position requires regular attendance at the monthly events. (Duration; ongoing; four positions.)

Mentoring

Mentors Needed!: We are seeking experienced individuals to participate as mentors in the ATW Mentoring Program, which runs yearly from January to July. Ideal mentors have a background in technology combined with strong business and life experience. This is a commitment of approximately 3-4 hours/month for 6 months.

Mentor Committee Members: The strength of ATW’s Mentoring Program is in matching the best-fit pairs. As part of the Mentoring Committee, you will review applications from mentors and mentees, conduct phone interviews and make recommendations regarding the matches. You will participate in periodic check-ins with the matched pairs to see how they are progressing. This committee is ideal for anyone seeking to establish new connections and meet great people, including leading Bay Area women and men who have volunteered their time as mentors. The time commitment is about 5-6 hours at the beginning of the program, with an hour here and there for meetings and periodic check-ins.

Workshops

On-site Workshop Coordinator: The on-site workshop coordinator attends the assigned workshop as a full participant, and acts as the go-to person for the workshop instructor and participants. She/he greets participants; handles check-in and any on-site workshop registration; brings supplies; distributes, collects and tallies workshop evaluation forms; and ensures the instructors and participants have everything they need during the course of the workshop. This job is a great way to meet new people, act as an ambassador for ATW, and attend a workshop at no cost in return for helping to ensure a smooth-running workshop. (Duration: one-time.)

Workshop Logistics Lead: The workshop logistics lead handles all the logistics and facilities planning for each workshop offering. She works with the facilities contact at each corporate host site to ensure facilities needs are planned for; distributes registration confirmation and workshop specifics to participants; provides signage and supplies for the on-site workshop coordinators; and handles any special materials requirements for the workshop. This job requires good operational expertise, and attention to detail and follow up. This is a great job for someone who likes to plan and execute, and can easily be done during off-hours. (Duration: one-time or on-going; one position.)

Evening Programs

Event Coordinator: The Event Coordinator will work with host companies and the Director of Programs to ensure the success of monthly ATW events. It involves coordinating the logistics with the host company, the speakers/panelists, and ATW. Most of the work will be by email or phone, except for a visit to the host company’s site to check out the venue. The effort involved will be 2-4 hours/month, and needs organization, follow-through and good inter-personal skills. This is a great way to get to know people in different companies, as well as speakers and panelists. (Duration: one-time or on-going; multiple positions.)

Event Logistics Lead: This individual will act as a back-up for the Director of Logistics and will cover events. She/ne will need to be willing to handle all activities for a given event including: recruiting registration volunteers; pre-registration of special attendees; preparing badges and sign-up forms; pre-meeting arrival and set-up; and financial reconciliation. This role requires good organizational and interpersonal skills. Most of the workload happens the night before the event. It is an excellent opportunity to meet everyone at the front door – and a great way to represent ATW. (Duration: ongoing; one position.)

Event Registration Volunteers: The registration volunteers handle all aspects of getting people from the front door and into the event. These volunteers are some of the first seen by potential members – so presentation is important. Duties vary from acting as a greeter and escorting attendees to the venue, working the registration table, to handling badging and money exchange. The ability to balance a checkbook is a definite plus! Volunteers get into the event for free. (Duration: one-time; multiple positions.)

General Administration

Leadership Team Coordinator: The leadership team meets monthly. The coordinator will contact members of the team and help the President create and distribute the agenda, and record and distribute minutes at monthly meetings. This is a great way to learn what makes ATW Silicon Valley tick, and to become familiar with members of the leadership team. Excellent organization skills, writing ability, flexibility and sense of humor are required. (Duration: ongoing; one position.)

Chapter Support: Little things can mean a lot. Right before a leadership team meeting or evening program, there are often errands that need to be handled. These are usually simple things, such as running something over to Kinkos, delivering handouts to an event site, buying a gift card for a speaker. The tricky part is that requests are often made that require quick turn-around. If we have several people signed up for this job, it means we have a chance that one of them will be able to respond in a timely manner. Flexibility, even temper, and a sense of adventure are required. (Duration: ongoing; multiple positions.)

GREAT MINDS

GM and Tech Challenge Mentors: We are looking for people who willing to commit a few hours per week or per month to advise middle school girls working on a project. A sample opportunity might be mentoring a team of girls to compete in events like the Tech Museum’s Tech Challenge.

GM Event Program Manager: The GM Event Program Manager coordinates GREAT MINDS event with the host site and presenters, handles outreach, and ensures materials and food are supplied. Requires someone with good organizational skills and a can-do attitude. It is a great, time-bound way to get involved!

Outreach Volunteers: ATW partners with other organizations (e.g., Girl Scouts, math/science networks, schools) to promote events to girls. Volunteers are needed to serve as liaisons. This could be as simple as making a few phone calls, sending emails or putting up flyers once in a while. Different organizations will be assigned to different volunteers. You may already be involved with one of the target groups and have an instant connection!

GM Programming Team: We are looking for a few people to form our GREAT MINDS programming team to brainstorm program ideas. No parental or teaching experience necessary, we’re just looking for people who have a strong desire to encourage girls to engage with learning about math, science or technology.
