Description: |
Everyday there’s another security-breaking news item to worry us: phishing, spim, worms, identity theft (OK, they stole a laptop). Going online can make us feel we’re living dangerously, and we need a jargon-translator to even identify the perils we face. But we can’t retreat to a pre-digital age when security meant a strong lockbox (although those weren’t foolproof either) and we’re glad to be in a world where online bill pay saves the planet as well as our precious time.
The good news is that some of the best minds in the best companies are working on making it safer for us, and our families, to work and play online. On June 26, 2008 ATW is pleased to present a panel discussion of experts from premier companies that are working on ways to protect our digital properties and presence.
Come for a fun evening of connecting with Valley professionals and hearing a lively discussion on the latest trends in online safety and why you shouldn’t lose any sleep (yet) about the dangers of the digital world.
The panel will be moderated by Ben Jun, VP of Technology at Cryptography, and member of the Board of Advisors for the RSA Conferences. Panelists include: Jill Argo, Director of Solutions Delivery for Online Services Security & Compliance at Microsoft Hadi Nahari, Principal Security Architect at eBay James Nelson, Senior Manager of Information Security at Juniper Networks Marian Merritt, Internet Safety Advocate at Symantec
Event Registration is now closed - please join us at the event for the special door price of $10....hope to see you there!
Agenda: 5:30 pm – ‘Crack the code’ networking (refreshments provided) 7:00 pm – Panel discussion, Q&A 8:30 pm - Close

Yes, you know that you have to stay healthy – and look good! – to keep pace, but that is easier said than done when you spend most of the day tethered to the computer or driving around in your car, with caffeine and sugar to keep you going.

OK, we all know that Networking is a ‘must-have’ to a successful career and can even be a terrific way to meet a new friend or significant other. So we make sure we attend a variety of events where we can ‘network’, collect business cards, and consider it done. But networking is more than just meeting someone - it’s what you do after the meeting that delivers results. Surprisingly only 15 – 20% of us follow up after initial meetings and only about 2% of us have a follow up strategy at all!
Here’s what consistent follow up brings us:
* Business opportunities * Career opportunities * Social opportunities * New ideas, ventures, hobbies, and beliefs * Enhanced integrity and credibility * Fortune!!
Join us on January 31, 2007 for a lively session with Networking expert, Kathleen Ronald (www.speaktacular.com) as she leads us though her proven system of ‘Effective Networking Follow Up’. Kathleen is a dynamic speaker who’s back by popular demand following a very successful session last June on the value of Networking.
In this session: * Receive a step-by-step walk-through of Kathleen’s successful follow-up system * Learn how to maximize your Networking ROI * Learn how to customize her model to work for you * Discover the KEY component of her success, now used by only 2% of business people * Get comfortable with being accountable and watch your world open up

Being mentored is a great way to become more productive in any organization. Learning from others is not only efficient development but an essential way to expand career opportunities. You can maximize your potential by demystifying the mentoring process and making it more productive. This workshop uses a practical 4-step process to mentoring that, when applied, accelerates learning and facilitates the smooth transfer of knowledge from those who have it to those who need it.
Mentoring relationships should be 2-way partnerships. As a protégé, you have a role in creating collaboration on both sides of the mentoring relationship. As a result of this workshop, you can create a unique mentoring experience that encourages your participation, and enhances your learning within the mentoring process.

The Power Mentoring for Protégés workshop is appropriate for managers, directors, program/project managers, consultants, entrepreneurs, individual contributors and team members who want to become active participants in a mentoring partnership. The workshop is recommended for both current and potential protégés interested in learning the practical “how-to’s” of creating a successful mentoring partnership.
What You Will Learn and Practice •Develop the mentoring agreement. •Define your level of commitment and involvement in the mentoring partnership. •Understand your needs, focus, and goals. •Develop skills to propel learning: effective listening, holding meaningful conversations, learning from experience, and building and expanding networks. •Design plans to keep learning on track and share achievements and directions.
How You Will Receive Lasting Value By attending this 1/2-day workshop and applying the practical information and skills gained, you will: •Understand your role in a mentoring partnership. •Develop learning relationships, and become an active participant in a mentoring partnership. •Learn how to build and expand networks, and contribute to your own development. •Build a cooperative and collaborative partnership with your mentor.
Workshop Specifics Participants will learn a mentoring model and process that will enable them to prepare for and engage in successful mentoring partnerships. Description: |
Much has been made of the status of Women in Technology – specifically the decline of women enrolling in science and technology studies. Are the times changing? Is it possible that all the advances of the women in technology may be eroding?
Despite evidence to the contrary, every year there are still a good number of women starting promising careers in high tech and life sciences - and a significant percentage of them have rapidly got on the leadership track too. We have asked some of these rising stars to join us in a discussion on the “Millennial Workforce” – the most networked generation, thanks in part to ubiquitous cell phones, iPods, IM, Facebook, MySpace, etc. -- and share their unique experiences and expectations of career development in the 21st century.
Leading the conversation will be Lisa Orrell, author, keynote speaker and head of M7 Design (included on the Silicon Valley Business Journal's lists of "Top 25 Ad Agencies” and "Top 25 Web Firms.”) Lisa’s recent book is the timely The 2007 Chickonomics™ Guide to Millennial Professionals: How to Successfully Recruit, Manage, and Motivate North America’s Newest (And Most Unique!) Generation of Young Professionals.
In this session:
* Discover what’s driving women into technology and life sciences fields * Hear what they want from their careers and how they go about getting it * Find out about the changing workplace in the 21st century * Catch the enthusiasm and energy of the emerging leaders * Take-away tips on how to re-vitalize your approach to your own career and life

The Power of Connection: "When women connect, things happen!" Jackie Speier
Generously sponsored by Stanford University and the American Electronics Association (AeA)
Sunday, August 19, 2007 9:30 - 11 am
As career women, caretakers, wives, mothers, and girlfriends, we work hard to do well, and we may plan our work and lives accordingly; but as human beings we are still vulnerable to the unforeseen: the dreaded illness that only happens to 'other people,' the failed relationship, the unforeseen layoff. It's hard to plan for the "Oops," and when you're in the midst of that "unfortunate" event, it's very hard to see the light and doubly difficult if you think you're going through it alone.
Studies have shown that connecting closely with people is good for your health. Some wise women know the secret of surrounding themselves with supportive women to share in the joys and challenges of being human. Jackie Speier, Jan Yanehiro, Deb Collins Stevens and Michaelene Cristini Risley are four such women. For more than a decade they got together around a kitchen table to talk about their lives. The result of these sessions is their book, This is Not the Life I Ordered, a compilation of their powerful stories and practical advice.
Please join us for brunch to hear two of the authors, Emmy award winner Jan Yanehiro, and former State Senator Jackie Speier, share their extraordinary stories and the wisdom gleaned from not only surviving, but thriving. We encourage you to bring your friends and prepare to be inspired to start your own kitchen table group.
Jackie Speier served in the California State Legislature for 18 years rising to the Assistant Pro Tem of the State Senate and Chair of Committees on Banking, Finance and Insurance and Government Oversight. Previously Speier served 6 years on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. She gained national attention in 1978 as legal counsel to Congressman Leo Ryan accompanying him on an ill- fated trip to Guyana to investigate Jim Jones and the People's Temple. Ryan was killed and Speier shot 5 times. She is featured in the PBS documentary American Experience.
Jan Yanehiro pioneered the magazine format on television as co-host of Evening Magazine, a nightly program in San Francisco from 1976-90. Her latest documentary, Resettlement to Redress, examines the resettlement of Japanese Americans after WWII and the apology from the US government regarding internment. Married and mother of six, Jan has won multiple awards and the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award. She holds seats on several boards including the Kristi Yamaguchi Always Dream Foundation and The Bank of Marin.
The Logistics The program will be held 9:30 - 11:00 am, Sunday, August 19, Schwab Residential Center Stanford University Palo Alto, CA 94305
