1. Why is ATW organizing a formal mentoring program?
ATW is dedicated to the growth and advancement of women in technology fields, whether they are students, recent college graduates, emerging professionals or seasoned executives. It is often a challenge to reach out for assistance and guidance and we want to provide our members with access to positive role models to assist in their professional growth.
2. Do I have to be a member of ATW to be a mentor?
No. We appreciate your willingness to donate your valuable time and experience to such a worthy cause.
3. What is the time commitment required?
There is an application that we ask you to complete and an interview which will take approximately an hour to begin the process. The program itself is for a 6 month time period. We are asking the mentors to commit to 4 hours per month, with one of those hours meeting face to face and the rest via phone or email. We are also asking for a commitment of 4 hours for a formal “Meet & Greet” program.
4. I’ve never been a mentor before, do you offer any training for me?
A portion of the “Meet & Greet” program will be dedicated to providing you with professional guidance on being a mentor. Also, as part of the program both you and your mentee will receive a guidebook to assist you along your journey.
5. ATW focuses on helping women in technology fields. I’m not an engineer, how could I benefit as a member of your group?
Our members are a focused and motivated pool of professionals that are dedicated to improving both their technical and business skills. Their interests and backgrounds span across a broad spectrum of disciplines from engineering and IT executives to sales and marketing professionals. Although we have some members who are interested in a mentor to assist with their technical skills, most are looking for guidance with improving their business skills, interpersonal skills, political skills, and general professional development.
6. How do you match me with a mentee?
We have an application and interviewing process that we ask all mentors and mentees to complete. This allows us to get an understanding of what the mentees are looking for and what the mentors feel they have to offer. We then take this information and match mentees with a mentor who can provide the type guidance the mentee seeks.
Please strongly consider becoming a mentor and assisting in our efforts to help women continue to grow and advance. Your commitment to a mentee is a clear message; this is a place for her to learn freely, test ideas, gain inspiration and even confidence to begin walking through doors she might never have dreamed possible.
